Dear Valued Customer,
At this time you may know very well about Canada’s grave situation with West Coast and Montreal Ports. As of Monday Nov 11th, Montreal has joined the West and locked out workers resulting in a complete work stoppage. This means the terminals are not moving containers, or offloading the vessels, at two of our biggest ports in Canada.
Earlier this morning however, the Canada Federal Labour Minister has directed the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to order the resumption of all port operations at Montreal and on the West Coast, and to assist the parties in reaching an agreement by imposing binding arbitration.
This is essentially the same remedy, provided under section 107 of the Canada Labour Code, that the Minister used to resolve the railway strike (involving both CN and CPKC) that occurred this past August.
We will revert with additional information, including more precise timelines with respect to the resumption of operations at the affected ports, as soon as this becomes available.
